img_0297-5Think about the many great combinations in our world- Peanut Butter and Jelly, Mario and Luigi, ketchup and mustard, goats and beer. Wait, what??? Sly Fox mates the Bock namesakes (both goat and beer) when they hold their annual goat races to name this season’s Maibock. I’m still waiting for a goat named Bukkake to take it so patrons can order a Bukkake ‘Bock. I’m not sure if that should be an entire pint, or just a half, butt (pun intended) unless I start training a creatine-enhanced buck to race, we’ll have to stick with the cutesy names from little kids raising pets on a farm. Sly Fox Beer Ambassador Corey has his mind in the same trough, anticipating next year’s winner, “Lick” Mai Bock… Ok, so maybe these names were conceived after a glass or two of Eisbock.

img_0296-4img_0302-6There is no rain date for the goat races and the rain definitely kept some of the families away- not at all a disappointment to me. There are only so many cool kids that are tolerable, and thankfully the whiny, crusty-nostril ones stayed at home this year. You can always tell the fun kids- they slurp root beer out of sippy cups while Mommy and Daddy partake in Adult Juice. They squeal with delight when a goat drops a few nuggets of glory in the parking lot, and there is always one kid who takes to collecting these pellets like an Easter egg hunt. And he may try to fling a few at another gold-digging kid. Heh, those five kids made it. But I digress…what else is there to say about goats racing?

img_8653-35The rain luckily never became a downpour, but hung around as a steady mist. Tents helped keep most people dry- their clothes at least! There were about half as many goats this year as there were last year (in the heat wave)- half of them eager, the other half being dragged by their leashes. This year’s winning goat enlisted a special hip-checking technique at the finish line to his competition, enabling him to take the race. Besides a beer named in their goat’s honor, the winning owner also receives a $75 Sly Fox gift certificate. And the champion is…. Dax Maibock. Stop by Sly Fox for a glass- no goat urine additives!

Haha, I was there. Those goats were pretty awesome. I think I liked it in the rain actually. Made for better photographs of people happy in the rain with beer.
