What has happened to the Celtics? The NBA Eastern finals series is heading back to Boston after Orlando played them 113-92 last night. Of the 93 teams that went 3-0 the first three games of the seven games series, 93 of them have won the series. Orlando is just the 10th team to force a Game 6, and only three have made the series go seven games. So fate is on Boston’s side, and maybe a little luck of the Irish. But Orlando has Magic…
The Philly Flyers are heading into the Stanley Cup finals Saturday night against the Chicago Blackhawks. The Flyers haven’t polished the cup since they won back to back titles in 1974 and 1975, when most of the current team wasn’t even born. Considering they were down by 3 games against Boston and down by 3 goals in the final game, the fact that they rallied to come back and win the whole thing ranks pretty high in my bandwagon scale. Not to mention Philly is my backyard. Of course, my Chi-town family-members will point out my ties to Chicago are much longer than my ties to PA. And my SoCal blood is saying, what is ice hockey? Isn’t that played where long underwear is worn and winter diets consist of meat and potatoes to bulk up? Sure, we’ve got the (LA) Kings and (Anaheim) Ducks, but who gives a f…. The only ice hockey I watched as a kid was the celebrity tournaments with that 90210 guy. Alright, alright- go Flyers! Now back to my regularly scheduled Padres cheering. Yep, still in first place. At least I know how those Phillies fans feel now!

You know your blog has “made it” in the blog world when the comments stop relating to the BS you’re posting about and start resembling a certain ham product often eaten in Hawaii. I wish I could say I do this for a living and have the time to weed out the spam from the real comments but I can’t quit my day job yet, so if you somehow found your comment didn’t make it up here, my bad… You would think grammar would be a good way to narrow down the spam comments as they often sound like “I couldent discover to much other material on this write-up, so it was good to discover this one” or “interesting topic I can’t find much on, thanks for writing” but with the facebooking/myspace/linkedin networking nowadays, that’s pretty much how real people talk online. So then you have to look into whatever URL they’re promoting and realize the comments should say something more like “come visit my porno site- $5/min to watch water sports…” (and not the kind you see in the X Games…) or “free credit report, because I’ve looked and you obviously don’t have any money to pay your bills!” Anyways, feel free to “spam comment” my blog with craft beer ads or free brake pads or something, but until then I’ll just keep using my trigger happy index finger to hit the spam/delete comment button.

I’m not going to get all loud-mouthy with my “fan”-tastic optimism about the Padres season so far, because it usually bites me in the ass and they begin a downward spiral, but…

We finally got some good, young blood on this team! If that doesn’t look good to you, go root for the Orioles or something.
On a personal note, I took a line drive to the wrist with these stupid dimpled “soft” wiffle balls (meaning softballs that perform like wiffle balls, but soft is NOT a literal description) in my game last night and my wrist currently resembles Barney- fat and purple. I’m not sure why they decided to use these things this season other than to maim and bruise me. 2nd game in 2 weeks I’ve had to come out for an injury! I did much better 2 nights ago- batted 1.000 including two shots right over the 3rd base bag. I think I’ll start playing in full body armor though!

The past few weeks have been a whirlwind of work, beer, softball, and trying to catch a breath (or a nap!) so I’m just going to upload a bunch of pics from my first trip covering PA to Maine and all in between and let your imaginations form the story. Let’s just say it involves the #1 beer bar in the world (Ebenezers, love this place), one that will probably come close to competing with that title yet is affiliated (Lion’s Pride, bartenders who know their shit and what a selection!), and some train/bar-hopping in Boston. Oh, my liver!
