a. BMW E46 M3 GTR – $218,000+ (Performance)
i. 4L 8 cylinder V-formation engine producing 450 hp
ii. Racing version does 0-60 in just 3.3 seconds.
iii. Cool fact – Electronics superstore including the M-Differential which can adjust how the car performs on the fly; there’s even a mode that locks the rear wheels together in order to perform a kick-ass powerslide.
iv. The BMW M3 GTR owned the Prototype class in the 1999-2000 seasons. BMW entered the GT class in 2001, when regulations stated a car must be on sale on two continents within twelve months of the rules being issued. When BMW replaced the 6 cylinder engine in the M3 with a flat-crank V8 racing engine that could kick a Porsche’s rear bumper, ten GTR’s went on sale for $218k apiece. Porsche threw a hissy fit and the rules were changed in 2002 to 100 cars and 1000 engines must be built. Instead of just running with weight and power penalties, BMW dropped out of the ALMS series. They re-entered the ALMS series in 2009 with an updated version of the M3 GTR.
v. Another cool fact (I wikipedia’d this one…) – BMW drivers are usually “small-endowed, Napoleon syndrome” perpetually single men, especially those with overpriced and underpowered automatic 325i’s, but I do make exceptions for any of the M series, or at least a 5 series stick shift.
b. Benz C63 AMG – $60,000 (Luxury)
i. 6.3L V8 with 451 hp
ii. 0-60 in 4.3 seconds and 155mph electronically limited top speed, or 186mph with optional sports pack
iii. Cool fact – With your foot pressing the gas pedal like you know you want to, you’ll get about 5 miles per gallon…
iv. 7 speed AMG auto tranny, but no manual transmission offered!
v. Another cool fact – Top Gear called the seats “huge batwing-style racy things that are horrible to get into, but once you’re there, hug you like a desperate housewife.”
c. Bentley – you’re not going to get into a Bentley for less than six figures unless the BENT in Bentley is literal
(Swiss bank account or unreportable income)
i. Known as James Bond’s car in the popular 007 series, also owned by Jay-Z, Kobe Bryant, and even Paris Hilton whom probably could have parked one in her hot pocket…
ii. WTF fact – owned by Volkswagen since 1998, about as long as you’ve had a butler named Jeeves and a driver named Hoke.
iii. Old money” names – the Brooklands (two-door coupe with 530 hp, only 550 to be produced), Azure (450 hp, choice of 39 colors, 20” 16 spoke wheels), Flying Spur (up to 600 hp in Speed model, 1100 watt amp and 15 custom built speakers including 2 subwoofers), and Continental (Supersports edition is AWD and makes 621 hp running E85 gas)
iv. Many of the Bentley models are powered by a VW-designed twin-turbo 12-cylinder engine that generates 552 horsepower. Think of it as a Jetta on steroids!
v. Don’t forget to install a chandelier and champagne cooler in the backseat for true pimp status.
